Caledonian Canal
The Caledonian Canal is a ship canal that runs from Fort William to Inverness. The Canal is 60 miles long with 22 miles man-made and the rest made up of the Great Glen lochs. There is a visitor Centre at Fort Augustus that tells the story of the canals construction and another Loch Ness Experience attraction at Drumnadrochit. Boats can be hired from the Muirtown basin in Inverness and Jacobite is an Inverness based cruise and tour company that specialises in a choice of options along the Canal and in the Glen. Stopping to see Urquhart Castle that is a world famous Scottish icon is a must.
