Welcome to Birchbank, which started life as a sheep shed in Haddington, and has recently been converted to a lovely three bedroom house that is now being offered to rent as a holiday home. A peaceful country getaway we are close to city sights and coastal attractions, so you can make your own choice!
About the property
The house is semi detached and sits in the grounds of Chesters Farm, just outside Gifford and Garvald at the foot of the Lammermuir Hills in East Lothian. It is an ideal spot for walkers, cyclists, nature lovers and golfers. There is a large open garden with views over the fields and other farm buildings providing an attractive outlook and a real feeling of being in the agricultural landscape prevails. The property has been redeveloped to create a fantastic light-filled living space which remains faithful to its rural setting, but with the comfort of underfloor heating, double glazing and a log burning stove!
The open plan living area takes full advantage of the exceptional views and its south-facing aspect means that it is a perfect sunny spot to unwind and relax. Open up the huge window on the gable end and let the rural calm wash over you. There is one master en-suite bedroom, and two further king size bedrooms, all with their own access to the outdoors. A muted colour palette throughout the house, with accents from the Scottish heritage brand Anta, blended with concrete effect kitchen units and oak give a modern country feel to the decor. Cool cotton linens make for a dreamy night’s sleep with one bedroom feather free and a wool duvet in acknowledgment of the property’s heritage!
The garden is not enclosed but there are lawns on two sides - perfectly flat so great for mini croquet and boules. In summer the banks surrounding the house are full of wild flowers and planting for bees and wildlife. Hares are regularly to be seen running up the field margins and on the farm tracks around the house!
The house is accessed either up the steps to the front door or drive up to the parking space at the rear of the property with bags and shopping. The front door opens into the entrance hall and this is where you will find your keys on arrival. There is a large hanging space for coats and jackets, or it can be used to store your cases during your stay. This leads into the main hall which is a wonderful double height space lit with a large skylight in the roof - the plants love it! Then the living/dining/kitchen with bifolding doors that open right up for access to the patio and front lawn. A further two sliding doors access the garden to the side and seating on the south facing aspect. The sofa bed and seating surround a woodburning stove and flat screen TV with Sky package.
The dining table seats up to 8 people and two breakfast bar stools at the island are useful for a quick coffee or a snack. The kitchen is fully equipped with electric oven, 4 ring induction hob, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave, cafetière and all necessary equipment and crockery. One of the doors off this communal space takes you into the Reading Room, which has a selection of books, novels, board games and an office desk in case a few hours on the laptop is required.
The cottage sits in a large lawned garden - please note this is not fully enclosed - with a patio in front with outside dining space. There is a separate space for guests to store bikes, golf clubs and other outdoor gear if required. Should you require it, there is an outdoor washing line for drying clothes.

Things to know
Check-in and check-out.
Check out will usually be by 10.00am on the day of departure. Check in not before 4.00pm on day of arrival.
I.D. check and card authorisation for self-catering properties.
We will normally come and greet you on arrival as we live on site.
Cleaning.
Thorough cleaning will be carried out between guests and extra care with regard to Covid protocols will be taken.
Payment.
