Maggie and Hamish welcome you to Westend where you can enjoy the extensive vista of stunning moorland. Maggie is a native Gaelic speaking islander and tour guide who is happy to share her knowledge of life on the Isle of Lewis. The B&B is on the Hebridean Way Cycling Route and also the Walking Route, ideally placed between Laxay and Achmore on the final stretch to Stornoway . From Westend you can visit the stunning beaches of Uig, the Uig Heritage Centre, Abhainn Dearg Distillery and learn more about The Lewis Chessmen in the area where they were discovered. The picturesque island of Great Bernera has the white shell sand at Bosta. The replica Iron Age house is well worth exploring with Elizabeth the guide. The Gearranann Blackhouse Village is a cluster of traditional Hebridean houses where you can experience a step back in time and learn about the ancient craft of weaving Harris Tweed. In half an hour's drive you will reach the Isle of Harris, with its stunning beaches, the Harris Distillery and Harris Tweed Shop. To the north you will reach Ness with quirky little local shops and The Heritage Centre run by Ness Historical. The most northerly point of the long island is the Butt of Lewis. With dramatic waves and swirling seagulls. The Butt of Lewis and Tiumpan Head, Point Peninsula are recommended as one of the best vantage points for spotting Sea Mammals. Take a trip to the puffin colony on the Shiant Isles on a short trip from Stornoway Harbour. Curated 7 day cycle tours using Westend as a base to be launched in 2022. Please be aware that you need to book the Calmac ferry in good time for your trip. There are flights to Stornoway airport from Glasgow and Edinburgh several times a day.
