Birdwatching in Angus

angus glens

Angus is a Scottish District of rich fertile farmland, interspersed with mountains, lochs, woodland and seashore bordered by Dundee and the Firth of Tay to the South, Aberdeenshire and Royal Deeside to the North and The Angus Glens that define the area to the West. Apart from the famous beef that is produced within the District, it is an area of outstanding natural beauty with opportunities to enjoy many outdoor activities and a rich cultural heritage.

  • The most significant Birdwatching location in Angus is the Montrose Basin which has a visitor centre and is also a wildlife reserve over 750 hectares. The reserve attracts pink-footed geese, sedge warblers and large numbers of ducks, waders and swans. Also we recommend Seaton Cliffs near Arbroath (for turnstone, purple sandpiper, house martin, fulmar, herring gull, arctic tern, eider and gannet), Balgavies Loch near Forfar (for Mallard and tufted duck, greylag geese, wigeon, pochard, shoveller, teal, goldeneye, goosander, pink-footed geese and osprey), Loch of Lintrathen near Kirriemuir (for tufted duck, shoveler, great crested grebe, mallard, coot, heron and osprey)
