It was described as "the end of the end of Great Britain." It is located 600 m (2,000 ft) northeast of Muckle Flugga and 1.8 miles (2.9 km) north of Unst Island. It is one of the Shetland Islands' northern islands and is located in the Hermaness National Nature Reserve. Out Stack is just a rock outcrop, uninhabited and did not land directly on the north land. If traveling now north, the traveler will not encounter any other land between Out Stack and the North Pole. The Hemanis National Nature Reserve is covered with Muckle Flugga rock and Out Stack and the seabird cliffs and moorlands of Hemani.
