South Uist
South Uist is an isle in the Outer Hebrides in Scotland. Its population, at the 2001 census, was 1,818, mostly Catholic.
The west of the island is mainly machair, with a continuous sandy beach, while the east coast is mountainous with the peaks of Beinn Mhor (620m) and Hecla (606m).
To the northwest is the Deep Sea Range, a missile testing area since 1957.
