Dornoch
Derived from the Gaelic for 'pebbly place,' Dornoch is a town, seaside resort, and former royal burgh in Sutherland, Scotland. It sits on the Dornoch Firth's north shore. The town is home to several interesting historic buildings, including the Old Town Jail, a 13th Century cathedral, and Dornoch Castle; there is also a popular golf course, the Royal Dornoch Golf Club. Dornoch is notable as the final place in Scotland to hold a witch-burning - Janet Horne, the woman in question, was tried and executed in 1727 and is commemorated by an engraved stone known as The Witch's Stone.
