Grantown on Spey
The town was founded in 1765 by Sir James Grant as a planned settlement to provide housing for people who were being displaced from their homes during the Highland Clearances. It has a population of around 2,700 people and is known for its attractive Victorian architecture, picturesque location, and outdoor recreational opportunities, including hiking, skiing, and fishing.
Some of the town's notable landmarks and attractions include the Grantown Museum, Anagach Woods, the Speyside Way walking trail, and the nearby Cragganmore and Glenlivet whisky distilleries. Additionally, Grantown on Spey serves as a gateway to the Cairngorms National Park, which is home to some of the highest mountains in the UK, including Ben Macdui and Cairn Gorm.
