Lochaber
Lochaber is the region centered around the "Gateway to the Highlands" town of Fort William but the region includes the most Western point of the British Isles at Ardnamurchan and also Morar, Knoydart, Morvern, Glencoe and Britain's highest mountain Ben Nevis. Some of Scotland's most famous sporting estates are located within the region which accounts for the daily sleeper service that still runs to London and the extraordinary rail lines that run across Rannoch Moor and from Fort William to Mallaig across the Glenfinnan viaduct. The walking and climbing available is simply amazing with Fort William marking the Northern end of the West Highland Way and the Southern end of the Great Glen Way and for a spectacular engineering attraction you cannot beat the Neptune's staircase that joins the Caledonian canal to Loch Linnhe.
