Mallaig
Derived from the Old Norse Mel Vik, meaning Sand Dune Bay, Mallaig is a Lochaber port nestled on the west coast of the Scottish highlands. It is the primary commercial fishing port on the west coast of Scotland and is well known for its herring and smoked kippers. Mallaig is the terminus station of the famous West Highland Railway Line (Fort William - Mallaig branch), voted top rail journey in the world in 2009. This line was used during the filming of the Harry Potter films for scenes featuring the journey of the Hogwarts Express.
