Old Scatness

Shetland

About

Old Scatness is an archaeological site located in the south of Mainland Island on the Shetland Archipelago in Scotland and near Sumburgh Airport. The archaeological site contains elements from the medieval, Viking, Pictish, and Bronze Age. A brooch was discovered on the site in 1975, and its construction dates back to between 400 and 200 BC. Since 1995, teams from the University of Bradford have been working on the site. The Shetland Amenity Trust manages the site.
