Tantallon Castle

Edinburgh and Lothians

About

Tantallon Castle is a fort in the mid-15th century, located five kilometers east of North Berwick in Scotland's East Lothian region. It sits on a promontory overlooking the Fiord of Forth south of Bass Rock Island.

Tantallon (Tantallon) is the last castle to be built in Scotland, surrounded by curtain walls. Tantallon has only one wall to protect the passage to the promontory, and the other three sides are protected by cliffs overlooking the sea. The castle was built in the mid-14th century by William Douglas, the first earl of Douglas.
