House for an Art Lover

Glasgow

About

In Bellahouston Park in Glasgow lies The House for an Art Lover; it was built between 1989 and 1996, from an unrealized design by Legendary designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh and his wife, Margaret Macdonald. The Mansion's design originates from when Mackintosh entered a German competition for architectural design but was disqualified due to late submission. In the 1980s, Glasgow City Council and the Glasgow School of Art revived the idea to complete one of Mackintosh's unrealized designs, so construction began in 1989 and was as close as possible to the original design and the construction methods that would have been used by Mackintosh in 1901 when the design originated. The Mansion was completed in 1996 and today serves as a place where the people of Glasgow can appreciate art, Mackintosh's design, and the wonders within.
