Mar Lodge Estate

A Tourist Attractions in Cairngorms

Photo - Mar Lodge Estate

A traditional Highland estate that encompasses 4 of the 5 highest peaks in the Cairngorms (and in the UK) and provides accommodation, as well as opportunities for walking, climbing and highland sports ranging from stalking to fishing.

The estate also contains one of the country's largest areas of Scheduled Ancient Monuments - from post-medieval townships to remnants of early 19th-century sheep farming and the later 19th-century sporting estate. These nationally important remains give a fascinating insight into the life and culture which existed at a turning point in the history of these glens. Opening times

Estate: all year, daily.

The Private House Stay's Guide

The Cairngorms is Britains second largest mountain range. The main focus of the area is the tourist resort of Aviemore, a name synonymous with winter sports. Aviemore is surrounded by towering peaks, lochs, rivers and forests of native Caledonian pine. The ski area, nine miles southeast of Aviemore, remains Scotland's largest ski area. There is a funicular railway that runs all year to the Cairngorm plateau. In the winter its priority is quick ascent for skiers but it slows down in the summer to allow sightseers to savour the rare environment of the plateau from the glass sided carriages.
