Cairngorm Mountain Railway

Cairngorms

About

the northern slopes of Cairn Gorm, the United Kingdom's sixth-highest mountain, serving the Cairngorm Mountain ski resort. The route and ski area are located within the Cairngorms National Park, the largest National Nature Reserve in Britain, located near Aviemore in Scotland's Highland council area. A Doppelmayr 120-SSB funicular railway.

Engineering works to bring the Cairngorm funicular back into service in time for winter 2021/22 are now under way.
The £16m funicular reinstatement project funded by the Scottish Government and Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) will strengthen the mountain railway’s two kilometre viaduct's key elements.
The works will involve strengthening foundations, piers and beams, as well as replacing hundreds of sliding bearings.
