Scotland?s first 2ft narrow gauge railway running a half hourly service from Alford to Haughton Country Park a seasonal service from Easter to September with 'Santa Specials' in December. Alford Station houses the Tourist Information Centre and a small museum. Alford Community hosts three museums, a narrow gauge railway, a huge country park area (the river and the railway run through it: there's a fantastic caravan and camping site and holiday apartments to rent in the big house there), walks galore, a historic battlefield, a golf course with the clubhouse right in the village and lots of coffee houses and restaurants

A beautiful area of countryside that follows the river don from Aberdeen west in to the Cairngorms. Not quite as famous as Royal Deeside but just as beautiful and part of the Queen's Trail that is recognised as part of Queen Victoria's most favourite areas for walking and touring. The focus town for the area is Alford which houses the Grampian Transport Museum, Haughton Country Park and the Alford valley railway. The Lonach gathering highland games are a major attraction on the 4th Saturday of every August.
