Discover Dunnottar Castle

One of the most dramatic and romantically placed castles in Scotland - Dunnottar Castle. Sitting just off the land, this is a sight you will fall in love with at first sight and will remember for the rest of your life.

Dunnottar was important histotrically and the stunning ruin was once the home of the Earls Marischals who were one of the strongest families in the country.

William Wallace, Mary Queen of Scots, the Marquis of Montrose and the future King Charles II have all come to visit this castle. However, its most famous moment was that of a small unit who saved the Scottish Crown Jewels from ruin against Cromwells army. The siege lasted 8 months but when it ended on 26 May 1652 and the garrison surrendered, the crown jewels had already been smuggled out of the castle and hidden a little further south at Kineff Parish Church.
