About

In the Northernmost County in mainland Scotland sits the beautiful Valley View house, run by the incredibly welcoming Antoinette and Stephen Robertson-Carswell. This property is perfect for guests wanting to experience all the Highlands have to offer, including extremely close contact with the most affable fold of Highland Coo’s you will ever meet.  The hosts recommend that you meet their pet Coo’s, which will be sure to make your trip unique.

Antoinette, a local lass, is incredibly knowledgeable about the surrounding area and would be more than happy to guide guests wishing to find something to do.

About the House

Located on an active farm in the country, Valley View offers four beautiful rooms; all are en-suite and feature a Smart TV, ironing facilities and hairdryers with access to tea and coffee. The Coo’s suite is furnished with a super king-sized bed where you can relax in the morning and make use of a remote-controlled blind to take in the fantastic views of Dunnet head cliffs and the Orkney Islands. Both the King-sized room and Twin room overlook the sea. The whole house receives superfast broadband, suitable for business and personal use.

Garden, Catering and Animals

Multiple seating areas are available for guests to enjoy the beautiful gardens to take in the pastoral landscape at their leisure. For guests who want more privacy while enjoying the outdoors, Antoinette and Stephen offer a Secret garden that can be hired for private use.

Stephen is the property's chef; after 30 years in the industry, he is devoted to providing guests with a fantastic dining experience. He uses locally sourced ingredients to produce daily breakfast, where guests will eat on a large dining table, promoting a community atmosphere.

The main draw for many guests is the resident Highland Coos; these incredible animals will be the highlight of your stay. You can get up close and personal, and they will actively look to be petted and brushed by you. Responding by name, the Highland Coos are a massive (literally) part of the family and will feature heavily in your stay.

Surrounding Area

Positioned two miles from the seaside town of Thurso, guests will have the option to explore at their whim and take in Scottish culture on their terms. Featuring all the classic spots for a seaside town, Thurso would be an excellent afternoon excursion.

Within 25 minutes of Valley View house is John O’Groats, where you can take the fantastic coastal walk to Duncansby stacks. An excellent tourist location, this village is the focal point of many visitors’ journeys, with amazing wildlife spotted on and around the breathtaking coast.

If you wish to explore the nearby Orkney’s, you can catch the daily car ferry from gills bay or Scrabster Harbour. There is also an award-winning ferry and bus tour from John o’ Groats harbour, which Antoinette highly recommends.

Antoinette and Stephen’s Insider’s guide to Valley View.

Queen Mother’s Castle of Mey: Thought to be constructed between 1566 and 1572, the Castle has delightful views overlooking the Pentland Firth and the Orkney Islands.  Gifted to the Prince’s foundation by Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother in 1952, this beautiful attraction is free to visitors.

Beaches: Beaches within 2 minutes of Valley View include Dunnet Beach, Thurso Beach and Castletown Beach. All three beaches are rated highly and perfect for a stroll to fully immerse yourself in the scenery.

Camster Cairns: Experience history with an educational insight into Neolithic funerary practices by visiting these ancient tombs. Originally built more than 5,000 years ago, this is a must-see for any history buff.

Whaligoe Steps: For those guests who love beautiful scenery and want to work to enjoy it, the Whaligoe Steps are perfect.  The steps are used to make the 250ft descent down to a natural harbour, where you can bask in the sublimity of the area.

Duncansby Stacks: Just off Duncansby Head sit two towering monoliths rising from the sea beneath.  You will be drenched in a feeling of wonderment while gazing upon the ancient rock formations.
