Mandy's Insider Guide to The Art Bank Dalbeattie:

The 7 Stanes Dalbeattie: The town is one of 7 stops on a world-class mountain bike trail. The 7stanes are world-class mountain biking centres that span the south of Scotland. Their award-winning courses offer some of the best mountain biking in the country and attract riders from across the UK and beyond. You don't have to be an experienced mountain biker to enjoy these famous trails: there is a wide range of routes to suit beginners, families and experts. Plus, many of the centres also have skills areas for you to practise your technique. https://forestryandland.gov.scot/visit/dalbeattie

The Dalbeattie Museum: This is my next-door neighbour and a wonderful little treasure trove of history, carefully and lovingly curated by a local man Tommy Henderson. http://www.dalbeattiemuseum.co.uk/about-us/

Collision Park Dalbeattie: This is one of the most beautiful parks I have visited in many years. It is a great place to meander through on a summer's day with two children's play areas, a zip wire, picnic tables, a large duck pond, and a football pitch. There is something for everyone to enjoy, with Urr water running alongside the park, a mini stone circle made from Dalbeattie's famous grey granite, and a bandstand.

Castle Douglas: Only a 10-minute drive from Dalbeattie, this is the food town of the west coast with one of the best high streets for shopping. You can spend a whole day visiting the wonderful mix of shops and eateries, and you will only see some of them.

Hosted by Mandy

Mandy Nicholson is the proud owner of The Art Bank, and as an artist herself, she has designed every inch of her property to delight her customers. Mandy is also a coach to creative women, teaching them how to make more money in their business, and a published author.

Originally from Manchester, Mandy moved to Northumberland with her parents aged 16 and completed her A Levels at Berwick -Upon-Tweed high school before going to Edinburgh College of Art to do her BA in Art & Design. Like many creatives graduating from Uni, Mandy couldn't find a job in the creative space and ended up working in retail and hospitality, becoming a senior leader for some major brands and moving around England.

After a series of unfortunate events in 2009 where she lost everything (this is the story in her book The Life I Won, written under her pen name A J King - available on Amazon), she rebuilt her life piece by piece, trying to get back to Scotland. Following the death of her beloved husband in 2020, Mandy decided to sell up and go for it and bought the old Clydesdale bank property in Dalbeattie and has lovingly and extensively renovated it. She has found her happy place and loves to share it with her guests.
