It seems likely that most Iron-age land-owning families lived in round houses, although Dun Beag is a more elaborate construction than the norm and would likely have been owned by a richer family. While Iron-age forts were generally constructed from timber, the ready supply of Skye stone enabled the outside double-skinned walls to be built from the local stone with the roof and internal floors only made from wood. An axe was found locally that is thought to be Roman as well as evidence of destruction by fire. There have also been artifacts found that date from Viking times and the reign of Henry II (1154 -89)

The Private House Stay's Guide

Skye

Skye is one of Scotland's most popular tourist destinations for outdoor pursuits, wildlife and visitor attractions. The most popular destination is the Cuillins, the greatest concentration of peaks in Britain. They provide some of Scotland's best climbing and have become a mecca for all serious and experienced walkers. Equally spectacular are the bizarre rock formations of the Trotternish Peninsula. Major attractions include Dunvegan Castle, Armadale Castle, The Museum of the Isles and the Museum of Island Life. Kyleakin is a good base from which to hire a moped or bicycle for exploring Skye.
