Knoydart

Knoydart is a rugged, isolated peninsula of some 40,000 acres in west Lochaber. Situated between Loch Nevis and Loch Hourn and looking out west towards the southern part of Skye and Small Isles, most of the peninsula is a designated National Scenic Area. Home to some 120 people, the main centre of habitation is in Inverie. Isolated from the road network, access is on foot or by boat; there is regular public ferry service between Mallaig and Inverie. With three Munros, several Corbetts, and a beautiful coastline, Knoydart is popular with walkers, wildlife enthusiasts and sailors. The land is divided between several estates. The main part is managed by the community run Knoydart Foundation who provide a ranger service, bunkhouse and shop. Facilities in Inverie include a community shop, tea room, pub, and several guest houses.
