Inverliever Forest

A Beauty Spots in Crinan Canal

Photo - Inverliever Forest

Set along the shores of Loch Awe and Loch Avich, Inverliever Forest offers great views along the shore of Scotland's longest loch or through ancient Oakwoods and impressive old conifer woodland.

Inverliever Forest is part of West Loch Awe. Dalavich, Taynuilt, and Ford are the nearest towns or villages.

From Lochgilphead, follow the A816 one mile north of Kilmartin. Then follow the B840 to Ford then the unclassified road to Dalavich and Kilchrennan.

Crinan Canal

Although the Crinan Canal is only nine miles long it is wonderfully picturesque throughout and is recommended for boating and for walking on the good tow-path beside. It is another Victorian masterpiece from the days before trains and roads solved transport problems. It runs between Ardrishaig (just south of Lochgilphead) on Loch Fyne and Crinan, which leads out to the Inner Hebridean Islands and the Atlantic, and was built to avoid shipping having to make the journey round the Mull of Kintyre. It is open from 8.30am to 5.30pm 7 days a week in the summer but closed at weekends in the winter.
