Holmwood House

Glasgow

About

Holmwood House is the most elegant and elaborate residential villa designed by the Scottish architect Alexander 'Greek' Thomson. It also distinguishes having retained much of its original interior decoration and is open to the public. The Grade A listed villa is located at 61-63 Netherlee Road, Cathcart, on the southern outskirts of Glasgow, and is managed by the National Trust for Scotland.

Many architectural historians consider Holmwood to have had considerable influence. As published in Villa and Cottage Architecture, his design: selected models of country and suburban house recently built in 1868, may have influenced Frank Lloyd Wright and other proto-modernist architects.

Come and see the richly embellished architecture of Alexander "Greek" Thomson. You can also admire the impressively detailed interiors.
Visitors can stroll through the attractive riverside grounds and the Victorian kitchen garden.
