About

The walled and wooded outdoor gardens are open to the public free of charge at all times.
The garden was mostly planted in the 1930s and had an exceptional variety of rhododendrons, trees, and shrubs, including exotic species from the southern hemisphere. The woodland garden includes approximately 20 acres.
The design takes full advantage of the landscape's natural features, with paths winding through hidden wooded valleys and over hills to reveal magnificent views towards and beyond the early Georgian house—a large pond and stream running through the center of the garden.
The more formal walled gardens surrounding Colonsay House are filled with colorful mixed borders, climbing roses, clematis, and, more unusually, agapanthus.
The centerpiece of the Lighthouse Garden is the Rhubhal Lighthouse lens on Islay.
