Bod of Gremista Museum

Shetland

About

The Textile Museum is located in the Gremista Building in Lerwick, Shetland Islands. Böd is a restored fishing station, especially famous as the birthplace of Arthur Anderson. He is a textile proponent of the Shetland Islands. Exquisite lace was presented to Queen Victoria for silk stockings.
The first people to live there was Robert Anderson, head of the Gremista fishing station. Bird is a stall or central building for fishers. From then on, it organizes workers, stores, and processes and exports fish. Birds are seasonal, but Bird, which is so close to town, is a permanent residence and business place.
Demonstrators are working on the board every day. You will meet skilled practitioners in Fair Isle or lace weaving, and many days there are spinning mills and weaving mills. They will be happy to meet you and introduce you to Shetland knitwear and answer any questions you may have about technology, patterns, or yarns.
