The Mash Tun
A Inn in Speyside

The Mash Tun is situated on the banks of the famous River Spey in the heart of the Malt Whisky Trail in the village of Aberlour. The Mash Tun is currently owned and run by Mark & Karen Braidwood, both of whom have a real passion for good food and whisky. This is reflected in the locally sourced and well presented food that is offered by the friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff. You can also stay in one of the five whisky themed rooms situated above the bar area. The comfortable and well appointed rooms are all named after local distilleries. Four Luxury Rooms, The Glenfarclas, The Glenfiddich, The Macallan and The Glenlivet, and also a Luxury Suite - The Aberlour, ensure your overnight accommodation is enhanced with a whisky theme. Beautifully decorated throughout these rooms are all en-suite and have tea and coffee making facilities as well as television.
The Mash Tun is home to a wide and varied selection of whiskies, both single malts and blends, predominately from Speyside but also incorporating distilleries from the rest of Scotland. Included in this selection is the exclusive Glenfarclas Family Cask Collection. The Family Casks are a unique collection of 48 single cask whiskies, with one for each consecutive year from 1952 to 1999. The collection is unique as there is no other known collection of rare and old whiskies that covers 48 consecutive years from the same distillery. The Mash Tun is home to the largest collection in the world that is on display and available to drink by the dram.
Mark and Karen also run a Guided Whisky Tour Company, Bespoke Scotland, where you can sit back enjoy the scenery and whiskies whilst your driver shares his knowledge of Speyside whiskies and the local area.

The Private House Stay's Guide
Speyside
The River Spey is Scotland's second longest river. The upper part, Strathspey, is equally famous for its hiking, skiing and watersports. The lower part of the valley comprises the famous Malt whisky trail. There are more malt whisky distilleries in this small area than in any other part of the country, including Glenlivet and Glenfiddich. There is some fine walking along the 45-mile Speyside Way, which runs from Spey Bay south to Tomintoul. At the mouth of the Spey you find the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society wildlife centre set on a 450 hectare nature reserve.
