Perth is the largest town of the essentially rural area of Perthshire and is located at the Southern end of the main Northern artery of the A9 and an hour from Edinburgh. It is an attractive city that is home to the spectacular Scone Palace and an enthusiatic horse racing venue and a good base from which to explore the gardens, and wonderful natural features that abound in the Perthshire countryside. The area to the East and West of the M90 Motorway that leads from the Firth of Forth to Perth city is called Kinross.

    Perth has a couple of Nationally rated Museums and Art Galleries with links below. The Perth Sculpture trail is a city tour that leads you round the public art that has been enthusiastically developed in the citys open spaces. The trail extends through a mile of beautiful riverside parkland. In Kinross you will find the Kinross Museum and Micheal Bruce's cottage.

  • Gardens

    There are some nice open parks in the centre of Perth and gardens at the attractions linked below. The Bells Cherrybank garden is part of the Calyx and Cherrybank centre which is an exhibition and retail centre as well. In Kinross you will find Megginch Castle gardens and Megginch Castle gardens.

  • Horse Racing

    Perth Racecourse is one of the four main centres of horse-racing in Scotland, along with Ayr, Hamilton and Musselburgh. Most years there are significant meets mid-week in the fourth week of September, 2 days over the New Year period, midweek third week of April, midweek 2nd week of May, Gold Cup day on the Sunday at the beginning of June and midweek at the end of June.

    • Tourist Attractions

      The Morrison and MacKay Whisky Liquer Centre in Hilton is well catered for tourism visits, and both Scone Palace and Huntingtower Castle are good historical visitor sites. You can go ice skating or watch ice hockey matches at the Dewars Centre. Maggie Walls Monument is noted in Kinross.
