Accommodation

There are almost as many ways of pricing a room as there are varieties of accommodation. This is why PrivateHouseStays.com uses a price indicator to provide you with an "At a glance price comparator". It is far from perfect but we think, better than nothing.

We ask accommodation providers to rate their prices on a scale of one to 5 where:

  • £££££s are premium rates equivalent to city centre 5 star hotel rates and
  • £s are equivalent to what you might pay in a budget hostel.

(Obviously the type of accommodation is likely to vary from the above descriptions, but the prices will be equivalent).

The only reliable way to get exact pricing is by getting a quote (you can do this online on PrivateHouseStays.com for many establishments, others you may need to phone).

Note - Many establishments will have cheaper and more expensive rooms so its not uncommon to find an establishment with a £££ price tag with one room that is ££££ and another that is ££.

Prices will vary for a lot of reasons the most common being:

  • season (both in a summer/winter sense but also peak periods e.g. New Year, School Holidays)
  • the number of people sharing (e.g. it's common to pay more person if you are a party of one sleeping in a twin room)
  • extras such as cots
  • discounts for children
  • discounts for longer stays

Attractions

  • £££££s represent the sort of places or activities that might be the wallet melting highlight of a holiday
  • £s are typically nominal entry fees of less than a few pounds
  • £ Free - unarguable value!

Eating and Drinking

  • £££££s are prices that you might find in a Michelin Star restaurant
  • £s are the sort of prices you might find in fast food burgers establishments
