The Edinburgh Canal Centre is on The Edinburgh and Glasgow Union Canal, which is a 31 mile contour canal (i.e no locks) that runs from Edinburgh to the outskirts of Falkirk where it joins the Forth and Clyde Canal (lots of locks) at the amazing Falkirk Wheel. If the sun shines, the dappled beauty of the sun shining through the overhanging trees that border the canals is wonderful, combined with experiencing the Avon Aqueduct and studying the engineering involved in the construction of the canals, makes for a thoroughly enjoyable time.

The Private House Stay's Guide
Edinburgh Airport
Edinburgh Airport has grown considerably in the last ten years, now boasting direct flights to America as well as plenty of European and British destinations. With its growth it has lost the pleasant provincial airport user-friendly operation that it used to enjoy but it is still relatively hassle free. The only recomendation is to avoid booking luggage through Heathrow in London if making connections there as you tend to arrive in Edinburgh without your bags! Efficient bus service to the City Centre terminates outside Waverley train station next to Princes Street.
