The Strathspey Steam Railway leaves from Aviemore where you can relax, enjoy a snack or a dram or simply view the heather moorland and the Cairngorm Mountain range from the carriage window; scenes almost unchanged in a hundred years. Arrive at Boat of Garten, a village created by the coming of the old railway companies that served the area. See the driver and fireman tend to their engine. They may take on water and the fireman will prepare his fire for the journey onto Broomhill known to many as Glenbogle from the BBC TV Series Monarch of the Glen. The Private House Stay's Guide
Strathspey
The Strathspey area strictly speaking includes the whole Spey valley as it runs North-East From the North-west corner of the Cairngorms through the whisky trail towns of Aberlour and Fochabers. However the classicly beautiful and most commonly visited part of Strathspey is the area from Aviemore through Grantown-on-Spey and Boat of Garden. David Attenborough described this part of Scotland as one of his favourite parts of the world.
