Best time to visit: May to early June for plants, autumn to winter for birds of prey and geese. Getting there: Ten miles west of Stirling. Turn right off the A811 at the Kippen roundabout towards Thornhill on the B822. After two miles, a signposted track on the left leads to the car park and cycle racks. Visitor facilities: A 900 metre all abilities path and boardwalk allows visitors to walk around part of this beautiful bog. Information for visitors is available. A viewing tower giving spectacular views across the Reserve. Fine views with off-site interpretation at the South Common, Thornhill; 200 metre walk south from the community hall.

The Stirling and Falkirk areas are littered with ancient battlefields from the time when Scotland was not considered worthwhile to conquer any further North than Stirling. Falkirk itself has little to offer other than Callendar park and the extraordinary Falkirk Wheel whereas Stirling has much more to entertain the tourist with the slight drawback that many of its key attractions are spread out around the city and thus are easiest accessed by car
