Canna is serviced by the Small Isles ferry from Mallaig. The ferry runs every day during the Summer. See the CalMac Website for details. Your adventure starts at Mallaig - cars are only allowed on Canna by permit from the National Trust for scotland! Mallaig is well serviced by both bus and rail so leaving your car at home is a viable option. If arriving by car, we recommend dropping your bags on the quay-side and then drive round to East Bay which allows up to two weeks free parking. Tighard is extremely well appointed. The bedrooms are generously sized with plenty of space to unpack and a writing table in the window. You are also welcome to use the lounge where a real fire awaits you should the weather turn bad. Canna electricity is produced by 3 diesel powered generators. This is quite expensive to run so from time to time it has been necessary to shut these down for 6 hours overnight. This is under review and we currently have power for 24 hours. Tighard has internet access via satellite and guests are welcome to bring their laptops and use the Tighard WiFi system. You can either carry your bags onto the ferry, or pay CalMac a small charge and they will do it for you. When you arrive at Canna, we will meet you at the ferry and take you up to Tighard

The Private House Stay's Guide
Eigg, Rum and Muck
The hidden gems of the Inner Hebrides. In particular Eigg is wonderful and is topped off with An Sgurr, a dramatic central mountain that is a much easier walk than it looks. There are sandy beaches and caves along the shoreline and a fascinating a bloody history. Rum is quite different with dramatic black cliffs that rise steeply up from the sea with its main attraction being the extraordinary red sandstone Kinloch Castle. You can take a non-disembarking trip from Mallaig if you do not have the time to see the islands better and in the summer smaller ferries also operate from Arisaig.
