Unwind in a haven of tranquillity just a 20 minute drive from Aberdeen airport. This listed farmhouse, built by hostess Veronica's McCombie ancestors in 1762, nestles in its own 300 acres of land where cattle, sheep and horses feed and roe deer wander. Inside, through the impressive galleried entrance hall, you will find the gracious drawing room, furnished with family antiques and portraits, with a roaring log fire in colder weather. Delicious candlelit dinners and massive breakfasts are served in the tranquil dining room, twinkling with Georgian family silver and glass. In the morning, you will wake to the sound of the birds and the sight of the deer from your comfortable en suite bedroom with spectacular far reaching hill views in two directions.

The Private House Stay's Guide

Donside

A beautiful area of countryside that follows the river don from Aberdeen west in to the Cairngorms. Not quite as famous as Royal Deeside but just as beautiful and part of the Queen's Trail that is recognised as part of Queen Victoria's most favourite areas for walking and touring. The focus town for the area is Alford which houses the Grampian Transport Museum, Haughton Country Park and the Alford valley railway. The Lonach gathering highland games are a major attraction on the 4th Saturday of every August.
