Located on the Speyside Whisky Trail and close to Aviemore, Culdearn is a beautiful Victorian house, built in 1860, and once the home of the Earl of Seafield's family. It has retained many of its original period features to provide a combination of Victorian elegance and modern facilities. There is a choice of six luxury en-suite bedrooms, a sophisticated drawing room for relaxing by the open fire in the evenings with, perhaps, a dram or two and a small, intimate restaurant which has many awards including an outstanding wine list. Dinner is available each day and the menu changes daily and special diets are catered for. Any stay includes a delicious continental or freshly cooked full Scottish breakfast using locally sourced produce and includes a choice of three different fish dishes. Culdearn is renowned for its extensive range of whiskies and Distillery whisky tours can be arranged or in-house nosing and tasting evenings organised. The house is set back from the road overlooking woodlands and the Cromdale hills, but within walking distance of the centre of Grantown on Spey, and has a special combination of atmosphere and personal service that bring guests back time after time. Ideally situated for touring and walking in the Cairngorms National Park and in the heart of Speyside Whisky country, Culdearn is the perfect base for visiting the many attractions nearby including the famous Boat of Garten Osprey, Salmon Fishing on the River Spey, Golf, Strathspey Steam train, Speyside Distilleries, Castles, skiing and the funicular railway. For the less energetic, peace and quiet and sheer relaxtion with comfort and hospitality make Culdearn the ideal place to stay.

The Private House Stay's Guide
Speyside
The River Spey is Scotland's second longest river. The upper part, Strathspey, is equally famous for its hiking, skiing and watersports. The lower part of the valley comprises the famous Malt whisky trail. There are more malt whisky distilleries in this small area than in any other part of the country, including Glenlivet and Glenfiddich. There is some fine walking along the 45-mile Speyside Way, which runs from Spey Bay south to Tomintoul. At the mouth of the Spey you find the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society wildlife centre set on a 450 hectare nature reserve.
