Restored in 1948 for the painter Alexander Zyw by the late Sir Basil Spence to incorporate the adjoining Victorian schoolhouse as an artist's studio. As one of the oldest inhabited domestic buildings in Edinburgh and recently enhanced by the current owner, the property now offers a combination of period charm and modern luxury. You get the best of both worlds at Bell’s Brae House - a historic house situated on the Water of Leith in the peaceful leafy setting of the Dean Village, with its narrow cobbled streets steeped in history. Such tranquillity exists just 5 minutes walk from Princes Street, the New Town, the Dean Gallery and the Scottish Gallery of Modern Art. View the Anthony Gormley sculptures as you wander along the Water of Leith Walkway to the bohemian village of Stockbridge with its vibrant shops, restaurants and bars.

The Private House Stay's Guide
Edinburgh City Centre
The Old Town of Edinburgh is built on a ridge that rises gradually from the Palace of Holyrood to Edinburgh Castle. There are staircase lanes, called Wynds, that lead off this 'Royal Mile' that give the impression of the city being built on multiple levels and buildings that date from the 11th Century. The New Town is also a World Heritage Site with its mix of Georgian town houses and the earliest examples in Europe of tenement flats. The views to be had from the Castle, Arthur's Seat and Carlton Hill are dramatic and inspiring.
