Arisaig House is a very special place indeed. You take the fabled Road to the Isles from Fort William through the hills and by glittering lochs. You pass historic landing places recalling the early triumphs and final tragedy of Bonnie Prince Charlie, to arrive at what must be most people’s ultimate idea of a romantic hideaway... an honest grey stone mansion, originally built 1864 but much altered in the 1930s. In keeping with the character of the place, the public rooms are on a grand scale, with fine panelling in various hardwoods, family portraits and other interesting pictures including a collection by Jemima Blackburn, a well-respected and local Victorian artist. The oak staircase in the Hall is a special feature and oak floors throughout create a connecting theme; two rooms can be opened up to form a huge gathering area for dancing and entertaining. The Morning Room and the Bar (looking out on the Rose Garden) have quiet corners for reading and contemplation; alternatively puzzles, games or the music system. A friendly inner hall greets you on arrival and one press of a small bell announces your presence. From then on, you are at home!

The Private House Stay's Guide
Morar
This 84 mile railway that starts at Fort William and goes to Mallaig is one of the great engineering marvels of the world. The line crosses the amazing Glenfinnan viaduct and features a scheduled steam train each day that has been made famous as the Hogwart's Express in the Harry Potter films. The railway then passes Arisaig from where you can catch ferries to Rum, Eigg and Muck and beaches made famous by the film Local Hero. Arriving at Mallaig you get lovely views across the Sound of Sleat to Skye and delicious shell-fish. A ferry runs to Armadale in Skye during the summer months.
