Archie Bouverie's guide:
Highlands

The definition of where the highlands of Scotland starts is much disputed because there has always been a cultural divide between the highlanders and lowlanders of Scotland. Some would claim that the Highlands starts as the mountains rise above Stirling, others would justifiably befine the Highlands as the area to the North and West of the Great Glen that runs from Fort William to Inverness

What is a Small Hotel?

Private small hotels can (though not as a rule!) be the best and most exclusive accommodation to be found anywhere in Britain and are often to be found in converted country houses in the most beautiful gardens or on mini-estates. They can usually be booked on a full-board or Bed and Breakfast basis but expect tariffs to be at the more expensive end of the market. Learn more about accommodation types
