Archie Bouverie's guide:
Eigg, Rum and Muck

The hidden gems of the Inner Hebrides. In particular Eigg is wonderful and is topped off with An Sgurr, a dramatic central mountain that is a much easier walk than it looks. There are sandy beaches and caves along the shoreline and a fascinating a bloody history. Rum is quite different with dramatic black cliffs that rise steeply up from the sea with its main attraction being the extraordinary red sandstone Kinloch Castle. You can take a non-disembarking trip from Mallaig if you do not have the time to see the islands better and in the summer smaller ferries also operate from Arisaig.

What is a Guest House?

There is not much difference between a Guesthouse and a Bed and Breakfast other than an implied larger and more professionally run establishment (though this is not always the case!). A guesthouse is more likely to have staff, a 24-hour reception and better facilities for guests than a Bed and Breakfast. They may or may not offer lunch and dinner.
