The gem of the region is the spa town of Strathpeffer that was made popular by the Victorians on the discovery of sulphurous springs in the village. The Strathpeffer hotel still has a grandeur that seems incongruous in such a small place and the Pavilion has now been restored to be a magnificent venue for art exhibitions, weddings and other events. It is greatly recommended to drive slowly from Ullapool on the A835 stopping at the signposted recommendations for salmon leaping spots, gorges and scenic viewpoints. A visit to Moniack Castle south of the Beauly Firth is also recommended.
There is not much difference between a Guesthouse and a Bed and Breakfast other than an implied larger and more professionally run establishment (though this is not always the case!). A guesthouse is more likely to have staff, a 24-hour reception and better facilities for guests than a Bed and Breakfast. They may or may not offer lunch and dinner.
